I was born in and grew up in Nashville, TN. I graduated from Isaac Litton HS in 1959. I graduated from Vanderbilt U. in 1964 with B.E. in Electrical Engineering. I went to work for DuPont Co at the Old Hickory Plant making textile fibers. I continued my education at UT night school for 3 years. Then I attended UT grad school in Knoxville majoring in Business Mgmt and Economics in 1967. I did not complete my thesis because DuPont was reducing staff so I went back to work to hold my job.
